Algerian justice goes global

July 27, 2009

This is unusally creepy foreign policy behavior even for Algeria. The Arab Commission for Human Rights is a very active, independent Arab HR group, which Algeria has now managed to bar from the UN, just so the generals can pursue some pointless old vendetta against a refugee ex-member of the FIS.

How anyone could be barred from arguing in favor of human rights because he is the target of an Algerian arrest warrant is beyond me. If anything, it should be a necessary requirement.
