but where to stick the rhäto-romansh?

What’s it with Qadhafi and sensitive mapping issues? Writes The Daily Mail:

Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi is set to ask the United Nations to ‘abolish’ Switzerland and share the land among its neighbouring countries.

The eccentric dictator has filed a motion with the U.N. saying the Alpine state should be wiped off the map and split among France, Italy and Germany.

Gaddafi is set to present his bizarre plan when Libya takes over the year-long presidency of the U.N. general Assembly on September 15.

He first mentioned his idea at the G8 summit in Italy in July. ‘Switzerland is a world mafia and not a state,’ he said.

I think it is entirely possible that The Daily Mail is simply making this up, especially since the Swiss have already apologized. Then again, I also think it is entirely possible that it is true, because not even The Daily Mail can out-craze Qadhafi.

Let’s split up Libya between Egypt, Algeria and give the Tuaregs some grazing space.

    Stream of consciousness foreign policy.

Haha! Should be a chapter heading in the Green Book.

BTW, I note you’re not giving a grain of sand to Tunisia. You’re clearly Algerian all the way out to Borne 233.

Panache. What other world leader would one seriously consider this as being even possible! It’s brilliant. I mean terrible for Libya as a country, but I mean if you’re going to have a bad government that pisses away billions in revenues (e.g. Algeria), at least you should get some entertainment value out of it, I say.

    Now, as to splitting Libya:

Bother, I say split it with Tunisa (useful coast for more Tunisian Empire of the Sunburned Germans development), Algeria (all that useless desert, and the petrol), Egypt (the other side of the desert, maybe their old zone of influence) and Niger (just for the heck of it).

Actually a search shows that this is in fact confirmed by a UN spokesperson.

I imagine an Isratine-style solution for them and Liechtenstein.
